There seem to be many Arntz out there, all over the world! If you find it entertaining to read messages from other Arntz, their husbands, wifes, children, friends etc., then you are not the only one. So please consider to also leave your personal message in this guestbook.
It’s fun and interesting for other visitors if you – for example – mention the reason of your visit, your personal relation with Arntz, what you were looking for, a nice story or anything else you want to share. Thanks for your contribution (preferably in English) and let’s keep in touch!
P.S. Based on the location and country details in your comment an extra header image for this website will be added above!

We recently received a reaction from Monique Otto who’s grandfather Fritz Arntz was from Kalkar-Hönnepel. Thanks for your contribution!

I have relatives on my mother”s side of the family that have the last name Arntz. Her mother was Angelika Arntz and married Joseph Hannenberg. My grandmother”s father was Franziskus Arntz. I”ve traced this family right back to Steven Arntz or Aerntsen as well.

I’m trying to trace back my own family history, but all I can tell is that Arns is a variant of something similar. A website said it was a variant of Arntz, so here I am. Others say it’s a variant of Fearns…. which I can’t see quite as well. Ideas?
Arntz is my Other relation
We’ve found at least one record that indicate a possible relation between the ARNS and ARNTZ name. A German farmer called Theodorus Arents (also mentioned as Arens en ARNS – deceased mid 18th century) got several children. These children are all mentioned with surname ARNS or Arents, but one year before his death he also got a son mentioned as Arnoldus ARNTZ. So tracing back ARNS family history to Germany could indicate a link with ARNTZ.

You are the first Arns spotted in the banner images. 🙂

I did some checking on our name. There was a man born in Northern Germany in 1737 named Jakub Arntz who emigrated to the US, got married and had about 12 children of which 8 or 9 survived into adulthood (not unusual at the time). He lived in Pennsylvania and much of his prodigy moved west to Ohio and Michigan. I believe a great many of those born in the US are his direct descendants.
The name Arntz, derived from the German word for “sea eagle”, was indigenous to the area of Northern Germany near the Dutch border. There are several variants of the name including: Arndt, Arntzen and pretty much any German name starting with “Arn”.

Michael, great that you mention a link between Arntz in Europe and Arntz in the US! It looks like you are talking about Jacob Arntz, born November 14, 1737 in Assume (Germany), who died January 21, 1807 in Bally, Berks Co. (Pennsylvania). He married Margaret Schmitt on April 22, 1770 in Goshenhoppen (Pennsylvania), and they had 9 children. Another visitor also mentioned a lot of Arntz who resided in Michigan, so those could be of the same family branche. Thanks for your visit and great contribution.

I was born in the thumb of Michigan to Earl Arntz, who was the son of Benjamin Franklin Arntz, born in Rose City, MI. My great-grandfather was John Arntz and my great-grandfather was John Arntz, both of whom were born in Stark County OH. I believe my great-great grandfather was the son of Jacob Arntz for the PA family. Records get vague back them. When I did the research many years ago, I couldn’t determine where Jacob had been born. And the spelling on the names of his children’s last name was varied, even though they were from the same family.

Thanks, Trixie, for this great contribution! Goshen has also be added to the Arntz.NET website banner.

My great-grandmother’s last name was Arns but it was changed from Arntz I guess after they moved to the states. They were from Sonsbeck, Rheinland, Prussia Germany from the information I found from one of my distant cousins online. But, that’s about all the information that I have.Maybe that will help the other post that also has the last name of Arns in Ky.

I was so happy to find this site today. I am a musician living in Nashville, TN. My main gig is playing bass guitar for country artist Lee Greenwood (http://www.leegreenwood.com). Please let me know if there is any other information I can help with.
Arntz is my Surname
Interesting Site. Like most people with this peculiar name, I have been trying to trace this back for a while. It is a rare name here in the states, generally speaking. I have a sneaking feeling that a good percentage of people in the states with this version of the name are probably distantly related. All I know at this point is a few generations ago, we were in the northern states around Michigan. A Gordon and Rachel Arntz, born sometime around the 1930’s.

Thanks for visiting the Arntz website! Very interesting to read that your branch of the Arntz family seems to originate from the northern states in the United States.

I just like to share a funny story as it happened, back living in London, I goggled my name on facebook. another Claudia Arntz appeared and I wrote her just a short message, to say hello, because she lives in Duesseldorf, where I was born. She answered immediately and told me, that she was born in London ( where I currently lived). We swapped some mails and found out, that her husbands name is Klaus, so is mine, my son’s name is Tim, so is her cousins name. I am born 30.11.1964 and she 29.11.1965. There was more, just tiny titbits, but very entertaining…we could not find any relation, we have to try harder. It must be her husband, because she married and Arntz. Have a fine day, all Arntz

How nice to hear from you (again?), Claudia! Very funny story indeed. Was it you who also told us about her grandfather Heinz Arntz? ( http://arntz.net/related/artists/heinz-arntz/)

I found this page after doing research on my deceased family on findagrave.com. My great grandmother was Frances Margaret Arntz who was one of 13 (15 total) children of Theodore John and Anna Arntz who homesteaded in Burnstad, ND around 1905. Theodore John Arntz was the son of Wilhelm Napoleon Alexander and Petronella Arntz from Germany by way of Wisconsin…Small world.

Thanks for this extensive Arntz lineage information, Louise, and the clear link to the Arntz roots in Germany!
Your 6 times great grandfather was probably Peter Theodore Arntz 1685-1742, maried to Herminia Gabriels 1708-1783.
In that case your 7 times great grandfather was Wander Werner Arntz 1661-1731, maried to Wilhelmina Van De Port 1661-1723.

Was Walter a brother of William Arntz from Burnstad, who married Amanda? Amanda and William had 11 children in Burnstad ND. Their son William was my father, born 1920 I think.
